28 Oct CPD points renewal
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Each member has an obligation to complete annual CPD points. The CPD requirement is mandatory for all registered health care providers and is a requirement for membership with AACMA. Each year, AACMA requires each member to submit their CPD record card on 30 November.
CPD is an interactive process to maintain, enhance and extend a practitioner’s knowledge, expertise and competence throughout his or her career. It is a process of lifelong learning for all individual practitioners and health care teams that ensures the health practitioners’ knowledge and skillsets are up-to-date.
The CPD cycle involves reviewing practice, identifying learning needs, planning and participating in relevant learning activities, and reflecting on the value of those activities. As such registered practitioners are required to consider what they need to improve upon in clinical practice and to source education on these topics. These topics can be wide-ranging but must reflect back on how you practice as a Chinese medicine practitioner.
CPD requirements for this current year are as follows:
20 hours spent in activities that contribute directly to maintaining and improving competence in the profession
All CPD records must be in English
A plan of why and what topics for CPD are needed to be undertaken should be recorded each year
Records must include: date of activity, a brief description of key learnings, number of hours spent in each activity, provider or participants/resources
A separate portfolio of evidence of attendance should also be kept
At least 14 hours must be spent on formal learning activities
If you are using formal activities for your 20-hour requirement you must undertake at least 2 different activities
If you are using informal activities for within your 20-hour requirement you must undertake at least 3 different activities
These CPD activities must include 4 hours spent on professional issues which are non-clinical based learnings that directly affect your performance as a health care professional
If you are registered under multiple modalities (Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Chinese Herbal Dispenser), you should undertake adequate CPD to balance across all of your practice.
If you are approved and have scheduled medicines endorsement (herbs) in accordance with s. 94 of the National Law you must complete at least 2 hours per year related to the endorsement
First Aid Training, General day to day clinical activities, mentoring, supervising and mandatory further education requirements as determined by the CMBA Board, Panel or Tribunal DO NOT count as CPD
Pro-rata consideration is available to those registered practitioners that begin registration or re-enter registration at a later time within the year. There is no pro-rata available for part-time registered practitioners. Upon application, in extenuating circumstances, the CMBA may provide a full or partial exemption from the requirements of this standard.
As of 1 December 2019, there will be a new CPD standard introduced. The main change is that each year at least 5 hours of CPD must be obtained in contact with other practitioners. This is important to incorporate into the planning stage of your future CPD requirements for the 2019-2020 registration year.
Your membership with AACMA requires you to submit details of your annual CPD to the AACMA Head Office. This information can be sent to email@example.com or posted to Suite 1, 1990 Logan Rd, Upper Mount Gravatt, Qld, 4122. This requirement is mandatory to maintain your health fund provider status and is also a condition of the AACMA Constitution. Failure to provide evidence of your completed suitable CPD activity can lead to loss of health fund provider status which may adversely affect your patients and business. It is important to prioritise your CPD and submit to the AACMA prior by 30 November 2019.
