WFAS General Assemblies and World Conferences on Acupuncture-Moxibustion are convened every four years, with International Symposia held in intervening years. The purpose of these most prestigious events is to promote academic exchange, develop the science of acupuncture-moxibustion, and assist in and strengthen the understanding and co-operation between international acupuncture-moxibustion societies.
ACUPUNCTURE AND CHINESE MEDICINE IN THE MODERN AGE
Clinical Practice - Policy - Regulation - Research - Education - Standards - Safety
The key to healthy living today is empowerment through information and awareness of options and choices in available healthcare. The 6th WFAS World Conference on Acupuncture will explore the contribution that acupuncture and Chinese medicine offers for primary healthcare, all this in an environment of unprecedented natural beauty.
This is a unique opportunity for international networking amongst acupuncture and Chinese medicine practitioners and with other healthcare practitioners and should not be missed.

Workshop title: Releasing Pathogens with Nanjing Acupuncture
Abstract:
The Nanjing or Classic of Difficulties is a fundamental reference text for acupuncture practice. It is the model for many modern Japanese acupuncture traditions and also for Five Phases styles of acupuncture practice in the West. This workshop will explore the Nanjing's perceptions of pathogenic qi and the methods it offers for releasing them. Based on more than twenty years of experience in applying this model in practice, Volker will introduce participants to some simple but highly effective ways of dealing with simple, complex and hidden pathogens in everyday practice. Besides reading key passages from the source text, the seminar will focus on practical diagnostic techniques and use a case history approach to demonstrate the application of the model to clinical practice.
The official languages of the WFAS 2004 Gold Coast conference will be English and Chinese (Mandarin).
