Chinese medicine profession to be nationally registered from 1 July 2012
10 May, 2009

It is our great pleasure to share with our colleagues around the world ground breaking news about the legal position of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in Australia.

Australian Health Ministers met on 8 May 2009 and approved the inclusion of the Chinese medicine profession in the new National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for the Health Professions.

The national scheme will come into effect on 1 July 2012 and will register practitioners of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, as well as dispensers of Chinese herbal medicine products.

In 2000, Victoria was the first Australian state to register the Chinese medicine profession.

In 2012, Australia will be the first Western country to have national registration of the Chinese medicine profession.

This is a great achievement for Australia and for the profession of Chinese medicine internationally.

AACMA will be celebrating this milestone at the Opening Ceremony of the Australasian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Annual Conference (AACMAC) to be held in Melbourne from 22 - 24 May 2009.

Please send us your goodwill messages to be shared with our colleagues at the conference.
