ACADEMIC PROGRAM
CONFERENCE THEMES
PEER-REVIEW PROCESS
SUBMITTING AN ABSTRACT
This year the AACMAC Organising Committee has set five themes for the conference:
Theme A - Our Practice/Professional Environment
Sub-themes
- Ethics, professional standards and complaints handling
- Safety and quality, statutory registration, health insurance and WorkCover);
- Education standards and continuing professional education;
- Current issues in research and evidence-based practice, including (but not limited to) updates on the research environment for CAM and TCM, NICM, using evidence to support clinical practice, what is evidence-based practice, current and future directions in research, forum/panel discussion;
- integrative approaches to health and , working with other health practitioners;
- the future of private practice ; sole practitioner or group practice; working in the hospital system
- professional identity; claiming ownership and maintaining the integrity of TCM treatment interventions
Theme B - Musculoskeletal, Sports Medicine and Pain
Sub-themes
- Effective treatment of chronic and acute injury
- Treatment of elite athletes
- Providing support to sporting clubs
- Mechanisms of pain
- Effective treatment strategies for acute and chronic pain
- Trigger point acupuncture
- Point injection therapy
- Effective clinical interventions for other MS conditions
Theme C - Women's and Men's Health / Sexual Health
Sub-themes
- Fertility/infertility and IVF support
- Pregnancy, childbirth and post-partum disorders
- Menstrual disorders
- Menopausal syndrome
- Male health issues
- Sexual health
Theme D - Chronic Disease Management
Literature reviews, research reports, effective clinical interventions and practical workshops on the following sub-themes:
- metabolic syndrome
- diabetes
- chronic fatigue syndrome
- HIV & AIDS
- arthritis
- fibromyalgia
- cancer support
- mental health
- ageing
- stroke recovery
- weight management
- other chronic diseases
Theme E - General Papers
Papers will also be considered on other topics relevant to TCM clinical practice
POSTERS
There will be an expanded use of Poster Presentations so that more time can be allowed for individual oral papers and practical workshops.

AACMA offers all presenters the opportunity to have their submitted abstracts peer reviewed. Successful peer reviewed abstracts will be published in the Australian Journal of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (AJACM). The peer review process is not a requirement for abstract submission. However, academics and researchers submitting abstracts are encouraged to select this option.
