KEYNOTE SPEAKERS - PRELIMINARY LIST
A/Prof Lixing Lao USA
Director and Associate Professor of the Centre for Integrative Medicine, Maryland University School of Medicine, Guest Professor of the Shanghai University of TCM.
A/Prof Lao is a lecturer at the Center for Integrative Medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine, member of the Society for Neuroscience, Co-President of the Society for Acupuncture Research (SAR), Member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, Editorial Board Member and Reviewer for the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Editorial Board Member of the American Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Board Member of the PDQ Cancer CAM Editorial Board, National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and authorized CNT Instructor for the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM).
A/Prof Lao was co-investigator in a major clinical trial into the effects of acupuncture in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knww, the report of which was published the the Annals of Internal Medicine in December 2004. He has substantial experience as a researcher in TCM, including principal investigator in 7 major research projects and co-investigator in 6 other major projects. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine from the Shanghai University of TCM (1983) and PhD in Physiology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore (1992).
James Flowers AACMA President 
AACMA President James Flowers, a regular at AACMA symposia and President of AACMAC 2005, will be presenting a keynote paper on Mainstreaming TCM: Issues, challenges and strategies.
Dr Henry Liang
Dr Liang is principal of the Sydney Institute of TCM. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine (1983) and Master of Medicine (1986) from Guangzhou University of TCM and a PhD from RMIT (204) for his studies into Chinese herbal medicine in the treatment of cancer.
Dr Liang will present a keynote paper the pharmacological mechanisms of Chinese herbal medicines for anti-cancer effect and a workshop using case studies on the management of cancer with Chinese herbs.
Stephen Janz
Winner of the WFAS 2004 Best Paper on Clinical Practice, Stephen Janz was commissioned by the AACMA board to review its Code of Ethics and developed a position paper and draft policy on informed consent.
He is a Past-President of AACMA and Chair of the National Academic Standards Commission for TCM (NASC).
Stephen will be presenting a keynote paper on the role of the AACMA Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct in clinical practice and a workshop on informed consent - The inherent risks in TCM practice: Can you be sued when its not your fault? And how to avoid risk.
